The Spall is being built around a simple idea: Armstrong and Spallumcheen deserve reporting that begins here.
Regional newsrooms do important work, but small communities often appear only when something large enough happens to travel beyond the municipal boundary. Meanwhile, decisions about roads, taxes, development, local businesses, elections and community life continue every week.
The Spall will focus on those decisions and the people affected by them.
We will use public records, direct interviews, firsthand reporting and primary documents wherever practical. We will separate news from opinion, publish meaningful corrections, and give people a fair opportunity to respond when our reporting contains substantive criticism.
We are starting small. That is deliberate.
The goal is not to imitate a large newsroom. It is to build a useful local one.
